Host Stuttgart, Germany rolled to victory over the defending European Zone Champion Paris University Club in the tournament’s first game 20-0. The Reds broke open the game in the top of the first inning, when they scored eight runs. They would later do the same in the top of the fourth. The top-three hitters in the Reds’ order, Fabian Beck, Fridolin Fink and Moritz van Bergen all recorded multi-hit, mutli-RBI games, as both Fink and van Bergen knocked two doubles each on the day. Stuttgart split the pitching duties between four players, who worked five innings, led by Yannick Witt, who got the win.

Earlier this week, during PONY’s annual Board of Directors Meeting, it was announced that the 2019 Palomino World Series in Laredo, Texas would be expanding from an eight-team tournament to a 10-team tournament. The Board decided to award one of the two new automatic qualifying bids to the PONY Palomino European Zone Champion.

The loss gave Paris University Club the title, because of its head-to-head victory over the London Mets Sunday.

Both teams combined to score 21 of the game’s 28 runs in the final two innings, after East Europe tied the game at seven by the end of the sixth inning.
The London Mets struck early and tightened up defensively when they needed to in their 7-2 win over Brabant United Sunday afternoon. Despite matching the Mets in hits (seven), Brabant United hurt itself by leaving 11 runners on base in five innings.
Yannic Sutter pitched a gem for the Swiss National Team in game two Sunday, as his team gave him plenty of run support and won 7-1 over the East Europe All-Stars. In six innings, Sutter allowed just one hit on three hits and two walks, while striking out nine.

Paris used 11 hits (eight for extra bases) and took advantage of three Reds errors that resulted in six runs to improve its tournament record to 2-1.

Livio Bundi shined on the mound for the Swiss, as he tossed a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk, while striking out 10 on the afternoon.
The Paris University Club quickly put its loss to the Swiss National Team behind it and burst onto the scene with a seven-run bottom of the first inning, propelling them to a sizable lead that they were able to hold on to after five innings to win 10-7.
Two errors that led to runs two runs and 12 runners left on base by East Europe proved to be the difference in the Stuttgart Reds’ 5-3 victory in Saturday’s second game.
